Choi (2010:392) argues that people generally shape national images based on information given by the media. He reinforces that the image of a country is to a certain extent created and influenced by media coverage. Smith (as cited in Choi, 2010) further states that in framing and creating the national image of a country, the media usually use “catch phrases, pictures, special words, and metaphors.’’ Saleem (2007:136) agrees that the “image of a country” in the media is analysed through the language used by media, such as words, phrases, metaphors, sentences, and adjectives (Saleem 2007:136).

    Never so transparent to me was the product of the media’s actions while watching the “Latinos Beyond Reel-Challenging a Media Stereotype” video. In the video, it was highlighted that within the years of 1999 to 2006, the Latino population inclined by 15%, while the media only reported 1% (Sun & Parker, 2012). In effort not to disclose the actual percentage, Latino’s are faced with marginalization. Additionally, during WWII, Latino’s gained more medal of honors than any other racial group, and yet, this statistic was never aired in multiple documentaries (Sun & Parker, 2012).
