Stereotypes In To Kill A Mockingbird

In this story "To kill A Mocking bird" by Harper Lee, there is many examples of racism and stereotype. In this essay I will prove that Tom Robinson an African American man, is incorrectly accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell. We should still keep in mind that this story takes place in the early 1930's when racism and unemployment was a very big thing. Since Tom Robinson is a black man, and is accused of rape by a white woman, the court and many white folks in Maycomb, are very racist towards him. For example,Bob Ewell, Mayellas father, refers to Tom Robinson as "that black nigger yonder" on the witness stand, and calls Atticus a "nigger-lovin' bastard" after spitting in his face. This is a very clear example of racism. Through out this book you will find many, like when Tom is found guilty because of the jury's belief to never accept the word of a black man over the word of a white man. Although Tom Robinson did not commit the crime for which he was accused, Bob Ewell still harshly accused Tom Robinson because Mayella had ‘tempted a Negro’, which they did not want the court to know because that would be dis-honoring their family. …show more content…
They are wrongly treated just because the color of their skin it has to be them that did some thing wrong. They say that the white people would never do that. That is not true just because of their skin color does not make them the bad guy. Also, I think the Ewells are stereotyped because everybody thinks that if they a all trash. Maybe one of them is not like the other ones, it would be very hard for him to get his own name and not be considered one of the trash Ewells that everybody thinks he is. Everyone in Maycomb assumes once a Ewell, always a Ewell. All Ewells are uneducated and content to stay that way. For example in a part of the book they call Mayella "white
