In her novel The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton explores the theme that stereotypes are unfair and that therefore, one cannot judge an entire group of people based on these prejudices. A person is more than just a product of their community or circumstances, which is seen to be true in the characters of Johnny and Ponyboy. The Outsiders has two types of people, there are Greasers and Socs. The Greasers were the middle class unlike the soc who are more rich and Greasers are more wilder. The Socs are more likely known as cool to the point of not feeling anything and they were most likely to get into fights with the Greasers.

Ponyboy dislike the Socs, we see this in Ponyboy’s viewpoint. Ponyboy grew up with Ponyboy’s brothers,Darry and Sodapop. S.E. Hinton prove that the poverty does not mean boorishness, and not all members are always Juvenile Delinquents. Ponyboy’s personality was the least Greaser type, Ponyboy Curtis is incredibly quick-witted. Ponyboy gets good grades in school, and Mrs. Syme, Ponyboy’s teacher recognize Ponyboy’s natural talents in writing. Mrs. Syme told Ponyboy, “I picked up the phone book and called my English teacher. “Mr. Syme, this is Ponyboy. That theme -- how long can it be?” “Why,uh, not less than five pages.” He sounded a little surprised. I’d forgotten it was late at night. “Can it be longer?” “Certainly,Ponyboy, as long as you want it.” “Thanks,” I said and hang up” (p.179). This informs us that Ponyboy is a brilliant person and Ponyboy can be a writer when Ponyboy grew up because Ponyboy has lots of experiences and ideas that Ponyboy can write about and it is Ponyboy’s future talent. Ponyboy was the kind of greaser that doesn’t get into many fights. Ponyboy also cares for other persons, and an empathetic person, and confused at

For The Outsiders, I picked out two main themes. The first, which is shown throughout the entire plot, is that no matter how different we may seem from each other, we’re all just human and looking for a place to belong. This shown through both the Socs and greasers-- more specifically, Bob and Johnny. I used them as my example for the Parts to a Whole assessment, but I’m going to use them again. So with Johnny and Bob, they seem like complete polar opposites; one’s a Soc with parents that spoil him, and the other is a greaser with abusive parents that don’t pay attention to him.…

A basic human tendency when meeting new people is to automatically assume many things about them just based on their physical appearance. People don’t often consider the fact that a person’s exterior doesn’t have any correlation with their interior. Many people struggle to overcome or ignore this bad habit, for it can lead to the downfall of what might have possibly been a great relationship. In the film, The Outsiders, this concept of judging someone by their appearance, seems to be popular and a very important part of the plot. It can even tie in on the factors on who was cast solely by appearance and physical features.…

The Outsiders, written by S.E. Hinton, is a story about a gang of friends known as Greasers and their rivals, the upper class Socials. Two of the Greasers get into a fight with a group of drunken Socs, and Johnny, one of the Greasers, ends up killing Bob the Soc in self defense. Most of the events of the story occur as a result of Johnny’s actions. There are many examples throughout the novel that prove how Johnny plays the role as the “sidekick” to the other Greasers throughout the story, though some elements of his character do not fit into that stereotype. Johnny is represented as the “sidekick” because he is more of a follower than a leader in his gang.…
