Illegal diamond smuggling has turned portions of modern Africa into underdeveloped and overridden with rebels. Fraught with the evils of greed and violence, Sierra Leone continues to suffer from the blood diamonds being smuggled out every day. Greg Campbell, the author of Blood Diamonds: Tracing the Deadly Path of the World’s Most Precious Stones, proclaims “The discovery of those diamonds-- which, until then, had been deemed to be just another worthless piece of gravel by the locals-- placed Sierra Leone on a course that would effectively destroy the entire country by the end of the century” (Campbell, 9). He goes further to explain that the turmoil that diamond smuggling has created in Sierra Leone has turned the country into nothing more…

In this video, Anthony Bourdain goes to Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically, Ghana. I can see how he chose to live the full experience rather than finding information about it in the internet. Since the beginning, I could clearly see the difficulty of their lifestyle and how different our cultures are i.e., clothes, music, food, etc. Ghana serves as a great example for the rest Africa because it transformed from an oppressed country to one who lets people exercise democratic activities. Even though their economy is struggling, it is headed towards growth.…

In the music video, Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift, I think that it was very ethnocentric is some ways and also stereotypical at the same time. The reason why I thought this video was ethnocentric is because it showed all of the beautiful features about Africa such as the wild life and the beautiful scenery. On the other hand, this is kind of stereotypical because it only shows Africa’s wildlife. I think it is stereotypical to assume Africa is all wide open space with all different roaming animals because not only wild animals live in Africa. There are more modern areas in Africa that have buildings and civilized people than most people assume.…

The events that occurred in Africa during the colonial period are unspeakably cruel and just flat out wrong in many ways. The British saw opportunity in Africa after Dr. Livingston went off on the first exploration of unknown parts. Dr. Livingston went MIA in Africa, so months later the British sent Henry Morton Stanley to find him. Stanley ended up finding Livingstone in a small village on the shore of lake tanganyika. Stanley was working directly for King leopold, from Brussels.…

I believe that the movie Black Panther represents Africa today and in the future. Seeing the movie, I am not normally one to watch these types of movies and honestly, I am glad that I did. Wakanda is where this movie takes place, and it show us a lot of things that we were to never really think were around anywhere in the world, especially Africa. “Wakanda shows how Africa might have developed in the absence of colonialism and the slave trade.” “Wakanda was known to be independent, strong, wealthy, peaceful which was easy to show how slavery and imperialism harmed Africa.”…

SINGLE STORY CAN DAMAGE THE IDENTITY We heard about bad things about Africa ,due to how we grew up without knowing what is good and bad ,to my view i feel that it is good to do research and be educated ,don’t judge people according to how you see them ,the reason why am saying this is because we have heard alot of negativity about African that is one side of a story, i kind of relate this story of Adichie where she said about how she travels to London to study and her roommates was pity about her according to how she knows about Africa ,example is how we watch commercial ,showing African children with no shoes and tattered clothes ,thinking that there is nothing can come out of Africa. An example of non profit Organizations such as, worldhunger.org quotes “Poverty is the principal cause of hunger in Africa and elsewhere” others research are UNCEF,World Vision 2005 , how they show one side of the story about Africa .…
