Stereotypes In The Lion King

In the article “All’s Not Well in Land of ‘The Lion King’” the author, Margaret Lazarus, talks about her opinion and her summary of the movie “The Lion King.” Lazarus talks about her experience of “The Lion King and how disappointed she was in the movie. Lazarus and her kids though they were going to see an innocent movie about animals in the wild. But after watching the movie she believed that the movie stereotyped different kinds of people. She believed that it stereotyped against ghettos, African Americans, and gays. Lazarus also believes that Walt Disney and the makers of “The Lion King” are also sexist against females. One example of her thinking the movie was stereotyping was when they portrayed the hyenas and the space they lived in as hostile and she compared it to living in the ghettos. Another example of when she says the makers of the movie are sexist is when Scar takes over and the women lions don’t know what to do so they …show more content…
I do not believe the makers of the movie made it portray that females were too scared to do anything. I see it as the female lions were so used to looking up to their king that when he died they just didn’t know what to do, as did the rest of the animal kingdom. She thinks that just because they didn’t do anything to rebel against Scar taking over that the makers of the movie were being sexist against females. And I see it as them not knowing what to do and waiting until the king’s heir is ready to take back power from Scar. I disagree with Lazarus’ view on the move “The Lion King” almost completely. I had not made any connections with the movie and her views on it. I saw it as the heir to the king has to make up ground for when his father dies and his evil uncle tries to take over power. I saw the movie as a basic movie with a plot and nothing that represents anything to real life. I saw it as a good old fashioned Walt Disney

ANALYSING AND UNCOVERING “INTENT” The racial stereotypes present in Disney/Pixar movies are intentional because the dialects used by the characters of the said stereotype promotes negative connotations. If a person unconsciously and without intentions draws a character that looks like a racial stereotype then it can be truly seen as an accident, but if that person also says they “unconsciously” and “without intentions” gave that character a voice that perfectly fits the stereotype as well can one really say it was an accident? Firstly, in my opinion, Kasi Lemmons’ Eve’s Bayou turned out to be totally different than I expected, because at first, when it begins, I thought it was going to be some kind of “slavery” film shown in the ‘perspective of the slaves’, just because of the scenario that they used (the house near the bayou) and because it’s a typical kind of theme used by other non-black directors to do. I really liked it and it made me think about fraternal love a lot. Moreover, the end is shocking and it makes the viewer realize that the family is just a normal one with its life and its problems, and it could be the same if the family was a white one, showing that we are all the same and that we all have the same problems. “Memory is a selection of images,…

There is a significant inter-group depiction of Indian society; children in particular, across several socio-cultural variables. Poverty, character role, religious practices, occupation and pollution. India is consistently portrayed as uncivilised, backward and impoverished by overpopulation and lack of the country’s economy. “Lion” is successful in displaying an accurate visual representation of two kinds of exotic; exotic India, all poverty and squalor; and exotic Tasmania with its sporty lifestyles and picturesque scenery. It is typically “a misdemeanour against the cinema committed under the label ‘based on a true story’ — an incantation that reduces the magical powers of the screen to a mere imitation of life”.…

The outlook of not only the character but how the actors play the role are just as important because they understand who they need to be as acting. .Reading this has helped me understand why she is such an important character in the film, set it off and how she is strong even without though she was not feminine as an actor. Queen Latifah, “Her early raps are sometimes referred to as “feminist;” they discuss misogyny and rejection of negative female depictions(Sanchez, 65). The importance of a films’s representation goes directly towards the character and understand as to why they are acting as that persona because most actors have a reason to because they can relate.…

Vampires have changed over the years and the depictions of vampires through the years give us an idea about the anxieties of that time period, the way the people viewed the pressing issues of that time period. I am going to discuss the similarities and the differences between Bram stoker’s Dracula and the film Nosferatu. Dracula was portrayed as a tall old man with a white moustache who appeared to be a human and he had a charm about him normally associated with aristocrats whereas in the film Nosferatu, Count Orlok’s appearance is nightmarish and closer to that of a monster than of a human. He is shown to have misshapen eyebrows, huge pointed ears, long claws which are sharp for nails, walks around in an abnormal way and does not have any of the charm of Dracula. While Count Dracula has shape shifting abilities where he can transform into a wolf, dog and a bat, Count Orlok does not transform or change into anything.…
