But she is attractive in the sense that she seems to be energetic women. And that is what men see in Myrtle that makes her an object of longing. Tom falls in love with her which lets her life the double life that she was always wished for. “...There was an immediately perceptible vitality about her as if the nerves in her body were continuing smoldering” (pg). Myrtle wanted to be with Tom Buchanan so badly because he was rich and she did not want to be poor. It upsets her greatly when she found out that her husband,George Wilson, was not able to pay for his own suit for there wedding. This one situation destroyed their marriage forever. “‘The only CRAZY I was was when I married him. I knew right away I has made a mistake. He borrowed somebody’s best suit to get married in, and never even told me about it, and the man came after it one day when he was out,’ She looked around to see who was listening, ‘Oh, is this your suit?’ I said. ‘This is the first I ever heard of about it.’ But I gave it to him and then I lay down and cried to beat the band all afternoon” (pg). She doesn’t want to be poor and she wants to be with Tom because he is rich, this portrays her as a Gold Digger.She is selfish because she pushes Tom to get a divorce with Daisy so she can be with
