Theodore Roosevelt once said that “ a man who has never gone to school may steal a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad”. Mr. Roosevelt’s statement created a welcoming atmosphere for educators and student, but did not last. In the twenty-first century, many potential students lose chances for a better life due to limitations and pressures enforced upon these people. According to multiple surveys and studies, economic status and personal motivation are considered the main impacts that influence a student’s attitude towards education. As children are defined by their parents actions, a family’s financial position in society plays a major role in a student’s perception of studies.…
Secondly, David starts to show assumptions as the support knowledge vs the teacher. David's french teacher started to become David's worst nightmare. The teacher was stereotype in which her students started to feel judged and discomfort. As the class continued, David showed a bit of hyperbole in which he started to compare his classmates to odd objects. He said,"had front teeth of tombstones".…

Stereotype: A Threat to Intellectual Identity and Performance According to Claude Steele and Joshua Aronson, one cause of the relatively poor achievement faced by African Americans in school and by women in math and science-related fields is stereotype threat. This theory is based on the assumption that school success results from self-identification with the school and its subdomains which entails sustained motivation. If this relationship isn’t formed or is broken, achievement may suffer. Additionally, both authors advocate that an understanding and elimination of stereotype threats in an educational environment, also called “wise schooling,” is a solution to narrowing the performance gaps seen between the minority groups and white male students.…
Another effect of stereotype often known as white superiority can be seen in Mrs. Gruwell’s student, Ben who is the only white student in the class. He never speaks much in fear of the other gang members in his class. He prefers to sit in the front of the classrooms as close to the teacher. In the film, he was told to sit amongst the black students saying, “I can’t go back there alone” expecting to be harassed. This subconsciously indicate how white sees the black as a form of calamity and that black, being associatied with criminality in the media may have been a number of effects on viewers. .…
During my final year attending high school, it became evident that several of my peers had no intent of leaving our community or widening their horizons. I grew up with a majority of my classmates, and it’s probable that after being in the same district for twelve years, the community became a bubble for them; a safe haven. My peers developed comfort and became satisfied with their place in the world. Most of the youth in this community struggle to leave their comfort zone and are not grasping how beneficial a higher education is. This community is settling, staying within its margins, and is not experiencing the real world and all the possibilities it has to offer.…
Your position on leaders that conform to the environment appear to be non-authentic is concerning. A leader that is adaptable and sensitive to those cultural differences within an organization may have its’ vulnerabilities, but I would only think that would occur in drastic cases. In my workplace, my immediate, secondary, and tertiary bosses are all females and exist within an industry that is not centric to female products. I believe I understand your premise in those cases that executive leaders pander and change colors like a chameleon for the sake of peace and productivity. Like all of us, perhaps your own biases associated with your experiences within the industry you represent contributed to your hypothesis regarding the struggles…
Highschool can be a rough place, especially when you’re trying to find out where you fit into the mess. Everybody seems to have their group of people. They have cliques that are filled with people just like them. This system may seem ideal. You find people like yourself and stick with them.…
When transitioning from the education world into the world of employment and being an adult, there are several things that you can do to advance yourself and make yourself stand out among your contemporaries. However, there are also things you can do to disqualify yourself, and one of those things is having inappropriate content on your social media account. To ensure your best chances at success in the professional world, you should seriously consider whether your social media accounts display the professional image you wish to portray to potential employers, and if not you should take steps to rectify that. When a company makes the decision on hiring a new employee, they are making a serious investment in the individual, and as such, want…
Whenever we don’t have a good understanding of a subject, say, of people or countries, we then tend to make assumptions about them. This is called a stereotype. It is related to your own beliefs, opinions, and ideas. Do you believe stereotypes exist at your school? Stereotyping leads to treating groups as a single entity.…
Behold! A typical middle class household with a set of parents, 3 kids; one of them being a boy in his early 20s. We see him sitting with his ever normal family, who seems to be discussing the current drop in oil prices, with no clue of what the boy is doing. On closer look, we see him grinning at a text from his girlfriend of two years, who is telling him how cute he looks in his new hair.…

Body art, tattoos, are an expression of one’s personality. According to a Creative Cast Blog statistics show 15 to 25% of all Americans have tattoos, but workplaces still enforce policies of not being able to show tattoos of any kind. Many companies have dress code that make tattoos either be covered or they are just prohibited all together. An employee should not be penalized because of having a tattoo, saying someone can’t have a tattoo is discrimination, they show self expression, and some people get tattoos for their sentimental value. Civil rights are a class of rights that protect people's freedom.…
A common stereotype of a teacher is that they have a role which includes them walking into a classroom, teaching the lesson that they have planned before releasing the pupils for their next lesson and repeating the same role with their next class. People can be quite naïve to the expansive list of issues that teachers deal with every minute of every day. Over a teacher’s career, they encounter regular issues such as; differentiation, progress, children with special educational needs as well as issues that have become increasingly important over the last few years including safeguarding and radicalisation issues. Not only have both of these increasingly concerning but talking and preventing these issues is a high responsibility in itself making…
