She was in school; a place of villains, approving or disapproving your every move, watching over your shoulder like a hawk. She really didn’t get to do what she wanted, as the misleading posters plastered all over the hallway walls saying to be yourself said. She really wasn’t safe.
Such a secure seeming place like school, could be the center of a ring of unacceptability. People, and surprisingly children, face serious stereotype issues everyday. Schools and many other sources say that it is okay to be who you are, but how is that easy when there people who won’t let you? They will make fun of you, laugh, point, just to make you feel powerless, just to make themselves feel superior, just to make assumptions. …show more content…
This is because of the help of all of the issues going on in the world, such as terrorist attacks. These attacks are serious happenings, so while it is okay to always be safe, it isn’t to think of people who share the same race or religion as one of them.
People attend school for a primary reason; education, to lead their way through life, to gain knowledge and skills that are important. But issues like stereotypes hinder with this. It takes up people’s mind, lowering academic achievement and more importantly confidence. People stop trying and working hard. This leads to depression and suicidal thoughts. It is a serious cause, that many people don’t consider enough.
However, we can change this. We don’t have to feel like the girl; unsafe in school or any place for that matter. This issue is only to worsen, unless action is taken. The world needs to spread awareness about the results of this problem, and ensure safety to all students and people of the
