Look around and there will be boys trying to be better than girls and girls trying to be better than boys. It’s in our nature to compete against the opposite sex. Although, if you were to step into a classroom of an Elementary school, you will see almost all girls with their hands raised, ready to answer a question. Boys’ educational achievement is actually going backwards, as girls reach new academic heights. Evidence from dropout, graduation rates, grades, and many test scores shows that boys are falling behind. Teachers are being held responsible and this is bringing a lot of confusion and conflict. Remember the days when girls used to be nurses and teachers? Now they’re doctors and Principals. Girls start to mature around age ten. Some men don’t even mature until age twenty. This is not true for all boys. Most elementary school teachers are starting to teach complicated material at young ages. Boys have not yet matured and seem to have a difficult time at understanding and keeping up. They have less focus, and their minds find something better to concentrate on. Most teachers are changing the books they read and the examples they use to get the boys’ attention. Research shows that boys are more interested in trucks and dirtbikes than they are in learning about history and math. Richard Whitmire wrote a book called, “Why Boys Fail.” All his research is explained throughout the book. Not all information is proven, but a lot has evidence to back it up.
