Of mice and Men by John Steinback and Will by Maria Boyd are two novels that have very different storylines but both share simliar ideas and thoughs about friendship and streotypes. These are shown through the way the write and how they are percived to the reader. Steinback choosing a method that is very upfront and confronting to the reader and Boyd chosing a more realable method.
In Will, it is set in a high school, these are large stomping grounds which are frenzy. St Andrews’, the school, is divided into predators and prey with occasionally this being broken when the teachers, the authority, override this (‘Waddlehead seized his prey’ (p. 2). There are gangs of bullies (the ‘Australian white-bread boys … tracked and stalked … shoulders back and chins jutting forward’ (p. 218) that will pounce on anyone who is not in a group. But he has his best mate Lennie who is a mentally disabled man who he looks after. George looks after lennie he helps him with a lot of things to get through the day and in return Lennie keeps george company essentially acting as his family. George acknowledges this on page 13 “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place....With us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us." in response Lennie relises the fact that he also plays a major part in being a supporter "And' why?
