People categorize each other without taking a look at the facts and without looking at each individual. Stereotypes and misconceptions are common in our society and can either be positive or negative. A stereotype is a widely known image or idea society has on a particular group of people. On the other hand, a misconception is an incorrect view or opinion on certain group of people. People stereotype because it is a way to simplify the social world. It categorizes a whole group of people and that helps infer that someone has a whole range of emotional and physical characteristics based on their group membership. This profession is meant for females because nurses must have compassion and males are not good at this. These are kind and loving women who care for the elderly people. However, males make up a small portion of the nursing profession because they are homosexual. In addition, nurses wanted to pursue a career as a doctor but fail to do so and that is why they become nurses instead. Nurses are not as important as a doctor because after all their job is not complicated. Their duty is to simply check the patient's vital signs and write down the signs and symptoms and therefore, does not require much education. I still remember thinking to myself that I had imagined it very differently. Nurses do more than what I had seen on television, they look at the whole person. Nurses are there for the patients when they are in pain and need someone to talk to. A nurse’s job is not just making the person physically comfortable, but also emotionally and psychologically comfortable. They also perform other duties, of course, such as administering medication, and monitoring the patient's health. Nurses go through intense training, which means not any person is suitable for this job. Training and experience is crucial because after all, one mistake can cost a life. The job of a doctor is as important as a nurse’s job. Their duties are not the same, however, they are both essential in the healthcare system. Doctors diagnose and prescribe the medications, but doctors only spend about ten minutes with the patient. Nurses, on the other hand, spend more time with patients, especially in nursing homes. Nurses make sure patients are comfortable, taking medications as prescribed, and assist with pain management. In addition, nurses are independent and are not supervised by doctors.
