The belief is that they are the "weaker" sex because of physical capabilities and having a smaller frame. Being a male does not automatically make a man a good soldier. It is true that there are women who are unable to handle the physical toll associated with military training, but there are also men who are equally unskilled and physically inept to deal with the physical demands of military life. Men are doubtful at first, but the female soldier should be given the training and the experience just as every other man, in the military, to be able to prove their worth. They should be allowed opportunities to express different points of view, avenues of approach and showcase their abilities that may be valuable during combat. In August 2015(USA Today, Jim Michaels, August 18, 2015) two female soldiers, graduated from US Army Ranger School, at Fort Benning, Ga. It was a physically and mentally grueling two month course. Ranger School is one of the most challenging schools offered by the Army. It entails sleep deprivation, physical endurance and primitive living conditions. The soldier is required to accomplish missions of land navigation, leadership and teamwork. These two soldiers pioneered the way for other female soldiers by graduating Ranger School. There is a feeling of isolation, being exposed to a barrage of sexual innuendos and discouragement of promotion for just being a female. An all-male environment can be hostile. Does the woman have to act like one of the guys, go along with the talk, the jokes and sexual comments in order to be part of the team? This type of pressure makes it difficult to report sexual assault if it does occur. A woman should never have to feel uncomfortable just to try to "fit in". Professionalism and trustworthiness in command positions are qualities necessary to accomplish a mission, regardless of gender.
