High school stereotypes can be a teenager’s friend or worst enemy, depending on what group you will fit into either by your appearance or personality. There are many different slots you can fit into in high school jocks, nerds, goth’s, popular, losers, cheerleaders and many more. The two that will be discussed and contrasted is popular kids and unpopular kids or nerds. Everyone can remember what stereotype they were in high school and for some can bring back some haunted memories. Can you remember yours? High school is where teenagers will find themselves and express who they are as a person. If your stereotype isn’t what people think is the “cool” thing to do then you are classified as a loser or one of the downgraded stereotypes. Popular …show more content…
An example of this is a high school senior Brandon Powel, at Robinson high school. Brandon committed suicide in the back parking lot of the high school, a popular eighteen-year-old kid who was just a week away from graduating. Too much pressure was being put on him and he shot himself once in the back of the head. A star soccer player at their school and an academic genius who had the world going for him. Right before this he wrote a tweet stating, “I love all of you. This day has been coming for a long time I love my family so much and especially (my girlfriend) I’m sorry.” Although this isn’t from a bullying point of view in school it is from too much pressure being put on him. Having to carry the school soccer team on his back and always worried about his grades in school, pressured to pick a certain college to go to that would excel his future to the next level, Brandon could not handle all of the pressure and decided to take his life leaving loved ones behind. High school can be a cruel place or one of the best experiences of your life. Depending on if you are popular or not these types of stereotypes can ruin some ones life and the choices they can make will not benefit anyone in a positive

While high school students are multidimensional, there is a bit of truth behind each stereotype. For example, if my life were a television show I would be the nerd. I always do my homework, I'm in the honors program at my school, I worked part-time at a bookstore, I get good grades, participate in too many activities, I love Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings (and frequently quote both), and stress about each of these things. However I have more layers to me than a two-dimensional television character. For instance, I also play a varsity sport and I enjoy dancing - ballet and jazz.…

When someone blurts out the word “high school”, what’s your first initial thought? I don’t know about you, but “cliques” are the first thought to my mind. The media is drowning in films that portray the idea of “cliques”, but personally, I believe the film Mean Girls is the best representation of the world of cliques. Means Girls is a teen classic, and I can almost bet the majority of my generation has seen or at least heard of it. It is American teen comedy film that manifests the harsh conditions teens undergo when it comes to high school cliques.…

Like William Raspberry, I think stereotypes limit us from performing at our full potential. Throughout middle school, I was labeled as academically perfect by my peers. In sixth grade, I had many classes with a boy called Zach, who tended to slack off during school. Every day, he would ask for the answers to our homework. He asked questions about linear graphs, the rock cycle, and the worst of all, where Kyrgyzstan is.…

It was the beginning of my junior year of high school that I was already feeling the pressure heavily on what college I should attend that would guide in the best way for my chosen career. During a break period, my friends and I were walking into a hallway speaking about the colleges we thought about attending when suddenly a student bumps into me, almost knocking me down completely, turned back and said, “Watch it wetback!” Shocked beyond words of expression that I had just encountered my first experience with racism. My mind was racing, contemplating whether or not to say something back, but I was already speaking by the time I could make a decision in my head yelling back, “How dare you assume and use such a derogatory term to me!” His response?…

The portrayal of high schoolers has had a strong presence in several form of medias. Their relevance in films, books, and songs has steadily increased through the past few years. High school tends to form an identity slightly different from that of college and middle school, which may serve to reason as to why writers would want to capture and present this identity. However, almost all of these forms are greatly exaggerated and do very little to accurately portray the lifestyle of a teenager. The writing of some of these works make several incorrect assumptions about the lifestyle of high schoolers and the structure of the school.…

Today, people are afraid to be themselves because they don’t want people to think something bad of them. Stereotypes hurt people, and they can be very harmful and unfair.…
