The fable, Animal Farm, is written by George Orwell. It is a novel about animals taking The Manor Farm from the humans. The pigs become the leaders and slowly start acting the exact same way as mankind. This storyline is based on Russia in the 20th century when communism started. The novel symbolizes and pinpoints several people, stereotypes, groups, and countries from the history of Russia. Many historic figures are portrayed through the characters of Animal Farm. Old Major represents Karl Marx because they both became the leader in the beginning and established rules. Mollie the bunny is the rich people. She is treated nicely by the humans and leaves when the animals start taking over. “And shall I still be allowed to wear ribbons in my mane?”(ch.2, pg.17) Mollie asks this because she still wants the time and care from the humans. Just like the rich want more money than the commoners. Some commoners are uneducated workers. In the novel, this is Boxer. “Alfred Simmonds, Horse Slaughterer and Glue Boiler, Willingdon.”(ch.9, pg.122) Napoleon sends Boxer to get killed for money. He is the hardest workers, but the is never rewarded or see what the problem is. He always follows orders because he doesn’t have the brains to reject them. The ones who are rewarded and do as they told are the secret police. The dogs Napoleon had were his secret police. They helped scare the citizens to follow orders and work. The leaders would give the secret police praise by feeding or congratulating them unlike the starving people. Another way the leaders made the commoners follow rules was propaganda.
