Stereotypes In Diversity Research Paper

Stereotypes are like an unbridged gap, or oceans between continents, always blocking us from where we want or need to go as a society. Yet, there is always a way to fix that, like building a boat or bridge, we need to be accepting and appreciating of one another. And not believing what you hear about people until you actually meet them. Stereotyping can keep us from making true and diverse friends, and meeting new people in general. They can even keep us from visiting places in the world because the area’s stereotype is “ poor and crappy”. They can also make people want to be like others, and not be original, which defeats any difference among us. As in the article, “Challenges In Diversity Management” by the DiversityInc Staff. Also, people will not want to travel to the place that they hear is bad to stay, and often times won’t even consider the good parts of the area. This will keep people from discovering if they actually love it there, and would like to move permanently, so the residents there now will be the only type of people ever there. Stereotypes can also prevent people from wanting to be different, because they are afraid they will be made fun of, or nobody will like them because they dress strangely, or sound different, or have an odd sense of humor. The list goes on and on, but stereotypes can block all of these great attributes. So, all in all, stereotypes will not allow different culture different beliefs, different looks, and so on into your area. For example, in The Outsiders, the two gang’s areas are either all Socs or Greasers only, with very little diversity. People don’t want to move into those areas, because of the stereotype you get if you do. So it will always be the same type of
