Stat 3021 Practical Assignment Part 3 by Braden McDowell Introduction For the Stat 3021 project, I was interested in determining how NBA draft position impacted a player’s performance. More specifically, I aimed to determine “Do players drafted 1st overall tend to have a higher average win share per 48 minutes (WS/48 — see https://www.basketball-reference.com/about/ws.html for information on the calculation of this stat) than players drafted 2nd overall in their rookie seasons?” I hold a longstanding passion for basketball, and I especially am interested in front office decision making. This project allowed me to explore the difference in value between the 1st and 2nd overall picks and better understand how management teams see these picks.…

I am not a creative person. When we were told about the project and that we had to come up with an idea to draw or create our own ceiling tile, I was not too excited. However, I knew that I had to come up with something since this was a giant part of my final grade. I sat there thinking while everyone else had already basically come up with an idea. Then it hit me, why don't I do it about something I love and have a passion for and that was, baseball.…

Sara Benaim Engl 101 11/24/15 Essay 3 rough draft- Murderball Disabled people have often carried the burden of a heavy misconception. Society tends to believe that people with disabilities are different from able bodied people; that they ‘lesser’ people, not at the same ‘human rank’ as the rest of society. The film Murderball, by Dana Shapira and Alex Rubin, has managed to combat this stereotype, making paraplegics look like gladiators and seem totally above the realm of disability . This move isn't "endearing", "inspiring", or "charming", it's ass-kicking. It portrayed the successful "handicapped" person as a leader, triumphing over adversity in a way which serves as an example to others; their impairment gives disabled people a chance…

Sports have captivated humans since the beginning of time, games that involve hard work, strategy and athleticism; games that have been considered manly and dominated by man. Why is it that females were given the short end of the straw once again? Beginning in Greece women were not allowed to participate in the Olympics, for over thousands of years women were still not able to compete until 1990. Even though the intent is to highlight the negatives in black communities I can relate to the content and its characters. I do agree with the stereotypes of the characters but I can see how it may send out the wrong message about African Americans as people. Riley Freeman for instance is a prime example of how the media portrays African Americans as loud, aggressive, violent, and unfashionable. He wears oversized clothes, has cornrows, and is very vulgar. Throughout the series, Riley constantly refers to others as “N*ggas”, “Hoes” and other derogatory terms.…
