Resilience is defined as “an enduring and yet fluid personality characteristic that enhances individual adaptation and positively influences the process of successful aging”. (Wagnild, 2003, p.45). Without a doubt, nurses should know the fact behind the successful aging highly depends upon the capacity of coping and flexibility. If nurses are able to recognize the resilience in each senior individual it will eventually help senior’s adjustment much easier. Furthermore, the health care policy must include the rights of caregivers by giving some respite care services, proper pay, and equipped them with current skills, training in caring elderly will yield more positive outcome.
Moreover, public policy should support the intergenerational programs that encourages the participation of both youth and older adults together, which creates a platform to exchange the ideas, and experiences. This type of program helps to bridge the generation gaps, proactively reduces inequities and further develops network. In addition to that, government should implement the policy of reorienting health services, decreasing the burden of injury and illness and building the capacity of key stakeholders, organizations and populations that support healthy aging.
