Stereotypes are part of our everyday life. They have been around for hundreds of years. Even though they may not be accurate, we may all be held accountable for either making stereotypes or even being stereotyped. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, there are many judgements being made by a numerous amount of children. Stereotypes are judgements being made based off of what one hears or what they are being told. In the novel the stereotypes are shown from a child’s point - of - view to show that in society even children are judgemental. Parents have very different ways of educating their children. There is no right or wrong way. Parents should teach their children to be polite, be well behaved, and most importantly, not to make rude or disrespectful comments while in front of adults. It is up to the parents to teach their children and educate them, that it is not right to talk about others. Many parents tend to talk about neighbors or even relatives. It actually kind of depends on whether they gossip about people or not. Not only do parents talk about others, but people just in general. Anyone now -a- days talk/gossip about everyone. Especially if there are rumors going on about that specific person, word gets around. The children hear the parents having a conversation so they go and be chismosos listen to what their parents say, get the idea that it is okay to talk about others, and they say it is okay because their parents do it. Understanding the fact that the children hear that folks from the North are “bad” people, that should not have been an argument for making, most likely, rude comments. Now, another thing would be that the students refer to the Ewell’s as “ white trash.” Reason being, just because that is what the students hear from others. It i s not right to judge others based off of what one hears. There should be no good reason as to why one makes these comments if they do not really know the actual facts. Two more characters in the story often get stereotyped. Mr. Boo Radley was stereotyped as being “ a murderer” simply because a rumor was going around that Mr. Boo Radley had killed his father with a pair of scissors. No one really seem to have any real evidence or any further information as to the rumor about Mr. Radley being true. One more group of people being stereotyped where the Cunningham 's. They were described as being poor and the main reason why was because the students had heard that the Cunningham 's never accepted anything they could not really afford.
