Stereotypes are assumptions on how a person is expected to act based on the group they associate with. A stereotype is based on truths. Stereotypes are conceived because at one point, the actions of people created an image for a group that was from then on excepted. A stereotype is not the same as prejudice or discrimination. A stereotype only becomes discrimination when a stereotypical belief is combined with prejudicial attitudes. If someone is treated differently due to a stereotype it is discrimination. If someone does not like a person due to a stereotype it is prejudice. Not all stereotypes are negative, but most commonly a stereotype is perceived as negative. Then the parents call the teacher yelling, asking why their child is failing. Teachers do not fail their students. Students fail themselves. A teacher will not fail a student just fail them. Yet teachers are fired and looked down upon when students fail. A teacher’s job is to provide and instruct students on how to do something. A student’s job is to take time out of the day and try to grasp the concept. Teachers are there to assist and answers to questions. A teacher once told me a story. It was the end of the year and one of his students came crying to him asking why she was failing his class. She was a senior and because she was failing his class she would not be graduating. He had given her every opportunity to fix her grade. She knew he offered assistance to students who needed it. Almost every teacher offers assistance for students, whether it consumes their lunch time or involve them stay after school sacrificing their own time. Contrary to popular belief, teachers do have a life outside of school. Teachers have families and children they want to get home and see, yet they are willing to stay to help a few
