Stereotypes are usually a fixed view or idea of a particular person or thing. Like everything they can be positive and negative but are commonly thought of as negative. When people think of stereotypes a person's individuality is typically forgotten and that person is put in a group based off of things like their appearance, likes, dislikes, etc. Stereotypes are assumed because of what a person might be interested in. Sociologist Charles E. Hurst of the College of Wooster says that, “One reason for stereotypes is the lack of personal, concrete familiarity that individuals have with persons in other racial or ethnic groups. Lack of familiarity encourages the lumping together of unknown individuals”. Misconceptions are incorrect views based off of unreliable thinking. I have talked to and dated boys and I can say that they are not really the way social media and people make them seem. Every boy I have talked to has never tried anything that my mom has warned me about going into high school. It seems to be that people paint a picture of boys as these nasty sex driven creatures with no emotion when in reality they are he complete opposite. They are loving and nurturing and not anything close to a monster. If a person asked any straight girl who her best friend is she would in a heartbeat say her boyfriend, why? Because he is warm and soft and a person can tell anything to and he wouldn’t change his opinion about her ever because he loves her.People think boys zip through life showing no emotion and only caring about sports when that is not really true.
