Although body piercing and tattoos are very common in today's society, they are frowned upon in Corporate America. According to Johnson, “42 percent of managers say that their opinions of employees are lowered upon seeing visible tattoos or atypical piercings” (2011). When I was in the Army, excessive piercing and tattoos were strongly discouraged. However, many service members had tattoos; and some were dishonorably discharged for having offensive permanent markings on the body.
