Most people go to the mall to shop, but when I went I was also there to take note of all the sexual images and messages I saw and heard. As soon as I walked in the the male there was both female and male mannequins displacing underwear, some more sexual then others but both sending the same message. In the mall I saw plenty of sensual imagery from sexual clothing, candles, sex toys, pictures of models both male and female, advertisements that displayed sexual imagery, and naked pictures of women as well on the clothing of some individuals. Also over the period of about 2 hours that I was in the mall I witnessed male interactions with females and female interactions with males. In October of 2014 Ross Bliss Creative (10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman, 2014), in cooperation with the anti-catcalling organization Hollaback (Hollaback, 2014), released a video depicting catcalling in New York City which quickly went viral on the internet. In this 2 minute video a Caucasian actress was shown walking down several streets in the city receiving an incredible amount of harassment. If taken at face value this video gives the impression that women in New York are constantly under siege, barraged on all sides with behaviors ranging from a simple “Hey girl!” to men pacing them for minutes in a threatening manner. Several complaints have been made about this film, and it is important to explore the phenomenon of street harassment in a formal manner to assess its true extent.…

What does it mean to be a man or a woman? Many people think that being a man means to not cry, never show any fear, be strong, and never show your feelings. Society is prejudicing men by setting certain standards that they must live up to, to be accepted by others. In the article “The Causes of Prejudice”, Vincent N. Parrillo defines prejudicial attitude as either negative or positive. Since only negative attitudes lead to violent social relations, many people define prejudice as “system of negative beliefs, feelings, and action-orientations regarding a certain group or groups of people”.…

Recently there has been an uprising movement, specifically on social media such as twitter, known as Meninism. Meninism (the followers best know as ‘meninists’) is basically the anti-christ of feminism, an ignorant plea for a couple of laughs from the epitome of uneducated men and boys. The internet is becoming an easy access platform to generate warped, jeering ideas based on the real issues of feminism, generating rather appalling messages. Many males, and even some females are supporting this movement, by purchasing apparel that has “meninist” sayings on the, by using the hashtag “#Meninist or #YesMen, or simply by following the meninist accounts. Meninism, an atrocious mockery of feminism, is an unnecessary movement in today’s society in virtue of the fact that feminists are fighting for equality, not dominance, making light of the legitimate issues within feminism, much of the meninist comments made are made online, behind screens, and simply because the definition of meninism is used incorrectly, creating fairly outrageous mockeries of feminism.…

Throughout society, all women have experienced unwanted sexual attention, which leaves them feeling uncomfortable and violated. Catcalls, a whistle, shout, or comment of the sexual nature usually directed at a woman, are a common method of conveying this attention. This method is considered a way for men to assert their sexual dominance over women, thus establishing society’s hierarchy. However, for my experiment I turned the unsolicited attention towards men by having a group of women comment on their physical attributes as they walked past.…
