Stereotypes: A Short Story

I woke up to the rapid buzzing of my phone on my nightstand. I grabbed it with haste as I sat up in my bed. I struggled to read the bold text on my phone screen as the bags under my eyes formed gradually. The text read, “HEY, MIKEY, I JUST FOUND THIS INCREDIBLE BARBECUE PLACE.”
It was 2:00am in the morning on a Tuesday. I replied with a congratulations and went back to sleep imagining the sweet barbecue sauce in my mouth. That next morning, I woke up and went to school. After school I had agreed to meet with my friend to try out this BBQ restaurant again. The place is off of Rockville Pike and looks like a regular restaurant other than the large smoker outside for catering events. Walking into the entrance felt like a spiritual journey into the heart of what

I immediately saw the large flag surrounded by state flags hanging from the ceiling. The people graciously welcomed us as we walked up the counter to order. The menu was full of different styles and cuts of meat. I chose the pulled pork sandwich and that also came with mac & cheese and fries. The cashier people must have very good memories because they knew my friend’s order before he spoke a single word. We got drinks (the usual fountain sodas) and sat down at a table made out of old license plates from all over Maryland. We observed the large amounts of TVs that surrounded the room and were full of sports channels and news reports. Our names were called. We quickly walked up to the serving area and reached for our plates. The guy handing us our trays was cracking jokes the entire time and made us feel very comfortable there. We get our food and sit back down. I regret making the decision to get two sides, but I soon am grateful for it. I look towards the

Bob Nowong: Native Spirit aint the usual seat and dine set up. We’re greeted with a beautiful smile from one of their staff. Since we’re obviously new to the place, the lady staff took the initiative to guide us on what to do and where the dine in place is located. Another staff approached us and hands over a menu so we can order in advance while were checking the place and taking photos. Courteous and friendly, two things I observed about the people working at Bob Nowong.…

We had just come from my granddaughter’s basketball game and we had decided to go to the Bob Evans in Marysville. That particular Bob Evans does not have a good reputation with me but since my dear grandchildren wanted to eat there I simply replied, “Why not.”. When we got inside a very cheery room greeted us. There was a beautiful chandelier covering twenty or so tables with green tablecloths and the usual condiments. “It looks good enough.”…

When I'm asked to recommend a restaurant, I’d suggest Saltgrass Steak House again and again. My thoughts are that this restaurant is one of the best experiences for this level of dining. Their menu has a vast assortment of options. For example, not only do they serve steak, but they offer chicken, seafood, soup, salad, and so much more. The food is of excellent quality at an affordable cost.…

Ding, the bell rang as some more customers walked in the Johnson Café, the best eatery in Birmingham. I shouted at Mark the cook “number 12 with a side of salad.” It was one o'clock, the busiest time of day in a bustling restaurant. I already had too many tables to wait for so two more hungry people were quite a bit of trouble. I saw a couple reading a newspaper headlined “1963 year of trouble” and yet it was only march.…

Delicate chocolates fade to coconut cream as they pass the lips of an elated lover. A soft, devoted kiss is shared. Rose, musk, and sugary-sweet perspiration thicken the air. That is the futile romantic’s interpretation of Valentine’s Day; the commercialized passion that directs the heartstrings of every woman. True love however, ventures well away from the likes of The Notebook or Fifty Shades of Grey, and while I wouldn’t confess to have a perfect relationship I do admire my husband’s attempts to be my kindred spirit.…

For the ethnic dining experience assignment Ayak and I chose to go to Hoi Sushi restaurant located on Wyandotte street in Windsor. We chose that restaurant out of many other ones because I’ve never tried sushi before and I’ve heard from many people that the food there was delicious. Also we decided to eat there because it was something out of our comfort zone and it was not only Japanese that was there at the restaurant. When we walked in a lady came up to us and asked a table for how many, and we said a table of 6 to her.…

What I am currently witnessing is something out of this world, nothing like what I was expecting, but so much better. Winterlicious is just around the corner. Dining is supposed to be an immersive experience involving all your senses: the decor of the restaurant and plating of the food, the smell that makes you mouth water, the music that puts you in a nice mood, the smooth touch of the napkins and utensils, and finally the taste of the delicious food. The complete experience actually starts from when you make the reservation, ends when you walk out of the door or upload your food photos on Instagram. However, is the experience designed in a way that is optimized for the diner?…

Monday Evening at Denny 's Restaurant After working another long day, I decided to eat across the road at Denny 's. I worked nude in my office with the door locked for the last hour. When I was ready to leave, I put on my mid-thigh length black cardigan and four inch clear stiletto heel mules, and walked over there. After I arrived, I noticed that it was mostly empty, and sat down at a table in the main area and ordered a coffee. As I was looking through the menu at food choices, I noticed two blokes arrived and chose a table within five metres of mine.…
