Stereotypes: A Scene Analysis

Improved Essays
Jenna,
As for the PowerPoint, I really liked how you included both audio notes and written notes. The audio clips explaining the video clips were also helpful!
As for the analysis of Radio, I found your social model examples interesting. Especially the film clip where the football team boys trick Radio into going into the girl’s locker room. You said the boys manipulating Radio was disabling, not Radio’s disability. This opened my eyes since I would not have thought of it this way, but now I completely agree! Another example I found eye-opening was “Stereotypes: Film Clip 4” on slide 14, where Radio is seen being arrested. You said both the “holy innocent child” and “object of pity” were being depicted, which I thought was an amazing analysis

Negative attitudes and stereotypes are a part of society; they become bigger issues when these thoughts and beliefs turn into actions, such as discrimination and aggression. Over the last decade strides have been made to change societal ideals and norms but research shows discrimination among particular groups remains high. The results of a study done by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force shows that members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community experience high rates of discrimination and violence (Grant et al., 2011). Theories on the formation of attitudes and stereotypes include Social Learning, Social Cognition, Implicit Association. Resent studies have started to examine the effects media can have on attitudes…

Can you think of any real-world contexts in which automatic stereotypes might have a detrimental effect on how whites treats blacks? Some real-world contexts in which automatic stereotypes might have a detrimental effect on the way whites treats blacks would be the police shooting on black men. Stereotyping has lead to some police officers think that black men are all the same thieves and hoodlums. This leads to detrimental effects because a police officer that views back men in this way, changes his behavior to be more aggressive then he might have been with a white person.…

According to http://durhamnc.gov/386/Demographics fourty percent of Durham County citizens are of African American descent. With that being said fourty eight percent of Durham County residents are of Caucasian American descent this leaves a small area for other races like Native American’s , Asian American’s, Hispanic Americans and countless others to fill. However, by being in such a biased city it makes me want to branch out more and not only learn but accept other cultures. In Today's society it seems as though it is the cultural norm to make fun of some you do not understand and or to descriminate against someone because of the rumors you ave hear.…

While planning and working on my PSA I decided I want to address an issue that happens frequently especially to people in my generation and that is Texting While Driving. Something is see everyday and hear it and the fatal accidents it causes. And I felt like people specially teengers need to realise the risk of texting while driving. I tried to appeal to the audience’s pathos, using music related to the issue and short video that can make the audience see the issue from a different point of view. The one statistic that stood to me while making this project was that Texting while driving is 6 times more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk.…

Stereotypes are very prevalent in the United States today. Throughout my life I have seen these stereotypes. In high school, I went to a predominantly black school and I witnessed not only myself, but also my friends being put into a certain group because of our skin color. When we would go play basketball we would be known as the “white boys” and all people thought we could do was shoot. I thought that maybe it was because they had never seen us before, but then my opinion changed.…

These children did not have regular communication with their families so they seemed to rely on the other children for love and support. King I love to learn and hope that in my next speech I will notice new areas of growth in my speaking ability. My reflection begins with eye contact and body movement, moving on to the use of voice, and ending with the organization of the speech. Opening with delivery, the thing that stuck out the most was that my eye contact was poor at best. In the beginning of the speech, I looked around more, but when I came to material I did not know as well, my eyes were glued to the page.…
