Ordinarily I would not be enthusiastic to read an excerpt like Whistling Vivaldi and Other Clues to How Stereotypes Affect Us by Claude M. Steele, but on the contrary, I found that I was extremely impacted, this reading opened my eyes to an infinite amount of possibilities that I had not been worried about before. There were multiple sections of this reading that was baffling, I choose to write about a passage that dumbfounded me completely, I found this on page four of the excerpt under chapter 2 about 7 paragraphs in and it states “I became an expert in the language of fear. Couples locked arms or reached for each other’s hand when they saw me. Some crossed to the other side of the street. People who were carrying on conversations went mute…

St. Louis has been one of, mainstream media’s, scenes for a lot of the racial tension that is going on in the world today. Stereotyping Minority Groups The video “Ten Rules for Dealing with Police” shows three cases in which three minorities were suspected of criminal activity when being questioned or pulled over by law enforcement. Police often believe because they are the law, they have special privileges and try to assert their dominance if their boundaries are overstepped. With that being said, there are respectful cops and morally deprived cops throughout the United States. Different places in the United States have a higher crime rate, police officers need to go off of instinct, kill or be killed, which accounts for some of the stereotyping.…
Racial stereotypes flourish in a diverse country such as the United States. No one is immune from bias or prejudice. The criminal justice system, and its practitioners are no exception. What is important is to recognize this fact and not to let personal bias interfere in how one treats and views others.…
The real issue with this segregation is majority white schools have more services and opportunities for students than majority non-white schools. Additionally, these schools are assigned the least proficient teachers and are often unsafe. Students attending these schools do not have as good of an education as students attending majority white schools. However, minorities still face discrimination in integrated schools, where many teachers have extremely low expectations for minority students. Schools that have multiple curriculum tracks tend to have a high percentage of minorities in lower tracks, which make those students less desirable in college…
The students are prejudiced towards each other and the teacher based on classist or racist mentalities. Because many of them have do not have the means to support their dreams or future, many of them lack the ability and motivation to succeed in school, which further prevents them from being a productive member of society. Racial and cultural conflicts among students divides them in the classroom and prevents teamwork, which also prevents effective learning. Combined, these issues make education as a whole ineffective and undesirable. As a result, many of the students drop out, or never go to college.…

For example, the government could implement laws and regulations regarding racial discrimination. Regardless of what kind of racism that is acted out, the effect it had towards the targeted ethnic minorities could prolong, and there are high possibilities that it would affect them mentally.
