//marketing - adverts with Disney
In the western world at the time there was a boom in the number of televisions in the country. New technologies making TVs a household item. With this came the ability for a new type of advertisement, the ability to show the public what playing with a toy was like.
Under Ruth handlers guidance Mattel made a big gamble and became the first year-round sponsor of the Mickey Mouse club resulting n a huge influx of sales from around the country as many children begged their parents for this new toy. This was also one of the first types of marketing that were aimed directly at young children, who are more susceptible to advertising, especially when under the age of 8 as they have been shown to think that adverts are unbiased and made to help them decide what to buy.
Therefore this advertising scheme had a huge impact on how Barbie was viewed by those with access to television, especially young children.
