The purpose of a bridge is that less effort and time are used to help crossing obstacles such as rivers, valleys or lakes. Bridges are made of materials such as stone, wood, steel and concrete and the load acting on it can be mostly vehicles or pedestrians.
History
Bridges began to be used in ancient times by primitive people using natural resources such logs and slabs of rock. Then the Roman empires became the first great bridge builders and they used rocks and concrete to build Arch Bridges. Until the nineteenth century, Europeans built modern bridges using steel and iron.
