Stephen Schmitz’s representation of Tennessee Williams’s play performed at Grossmont College, “A Streetcar Named Desire” took the audience back to the late 1940’s in a suspenseful, romantic, and yet melancholic journey to the French Quarter of New Orleans. When Blanche DuBois, a wistful Southern belle with a checked past, comes to stay with her sister and brother-in-law in a working class neighborhood of New Orleans, tensions quickly escalate. As Blanche’s fantasy-driven world begins to crumble. Taking into consideration that this was the first performance I attended, I had a lot of expectations as well as curiosity regarding the play.
