Leadership Biography: Stephen R. Covey
In order to better synthesize and integrate the concepts I have learned in my Principles of Leadership class, I have chosen to read three biographies about Stephen R. Covey and his most popular book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I would like to share what I have learned about Stephen R. Covey’s (a) life, (b) accomplishments, (c) most popular book, and (d) effect on me personally.

Stephen Covey has always exhibited leadership qualities throughout his life. From decisions he made as a teenager to lifelong hobbies, Covey was always setting a great example.
Stephen Covey loved to play sports while he was growing up. In junior high he had to stop playing sports, because the upper end of his thigh bone slipped off in a backward direction. After that he decided to focus on school and graduated from high school early. He went on to get a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Utah, an MBA degree from Harvard University, and a Doctor of Religious Education degree from Brigham Young University (“Stephen Covey”). Covey was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission to England for two years for his church. He was the first president of the Irish mission for the LDS church in July 1962. Covey married and became the father of nine children and the grandfather of fifty-two grandchildren (“Stephen Covey”).
