Anyone can be a writer. The numbers that can actually be good writers, on the other hand, are much slimmer. On Writing, a memoir by the highly acclaimed Stephen King, gives its readers a glimpse into the author's private and professional life and just what exactly does it take to make it as a writer. In the end, it's a bout enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as well. It's about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting happy, okay? Getting happy (King 269).” …show more content…

His writing style is unlike anything I’ve read before; I’ve read a lot of books. I was never a fan of nonfiction, but just from this book I’ve come to love King’s writing style. Because his writing is so captivating, I plan on reading other books he wrote. When people take what they know and teach other people, it’s truly a beautiful thing. King wrote this book because he wanted to show people how he became the writer he is today, to teach people of the mechanics of writing which he thought was the most important, to answer questions people had been asking him for years (pg 265).…

The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

It has always been a mystery as to what goes on inside the mind of a true genius. When someone does something amazing, the first question commonly asked is if he or she just has pure talent, because that’s all we see: the talent. What is hardly ever talked about is what is on the other side of the wall. The tireless struggle, the failures, the turndowns, the put downs, people saying “you will never make it in life”, the focus and determination: all of these things are what lies beyond the other side of the wall. In Stephen King’s memoir, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, King brings the reader along through his memories of the past and talks about what inspired him in his journey to becoming one of the most renowned writers of all time.…
