After reading “The Other Wes Moore” by Wes Moore I can understand what he means when he says “The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine, the tragedy is that my story could have been his”. This is about two men who each had their own struggle growing up but one was able to succeed in life while the other is facing a life sentence behind bars. Wes Moore could have had a similar life as the other Wes Moore if his mother would have just given up on him. Credit should not be given just to his mother and family but also to Wes himself. Considering how both Andrew Carnegie and Bill Gates are derived from different beginnings. They both embraced life’s challenges and made the decisions necessary to, one, become the wealthy men they desired to be, and two, not forget about those in need, through charity work. Argument Essay The idea that a person can overcome a situation of adversity to succeed in their lives has long been ingrained in American Society. It is the basis for the longstanding cultural phenomenon known as the American Dream and manifests itself in the idolization of many American heroes. Take, for example, President Andrew Jackson. The American Dream is the idea that anybody can become successful and powerful in America, which is commonly seen as the land of hopes, dreams, and opportunity. Regardless of the past and sometimes present, anybody can easily become somebody, as long as they have the discipline and willingness to commit and work hard for the future. While existing socioeconomic status in families, allies, or unrelated achievements can give one a boost in power, the greatest factor that determined the attainability of the American Dream was one's dedication to success. Family played a large part in helping to elevate…
