Stephen King Needs Things Essay

Needful Things by Stephen King: Stephen King is one of my favorite authors, he lead me into the world of science fiction and short stories. I fell in love with Needful Things because it had such a different feel than any of his other works I had read. Needful Things is a metaphor for the consequences instant gratification has. Although the book ends with practically the whole town being decimated by a bomb, I feel as though I still learned a valuable lesson in that, there is nothing wrong with waiting for things. I also learned not to covet what anyone else has because that alone makes people do weird things (there was so many killings based on miscommunications and assumptions, also set-ups.). The book was just so well crafted and it made …show more content…
I’ve learned to blend aspects of different religions to suit my personality. I’ve learned how to be much more understanding person because I realized that the world literally doesn’t revolve around me. I’ve also learned to be much more in tune with myself, how to find my place in the world and how to make sense of the things around me and things going on with me. I realized that I don’t need anyone else to validate my sense of self because that comes from within me. I learned that I need to use my talents to benefit others and in return, I will be happy. And, those lessons will follow me throughout life and that’s what’s …show more content…
I ran across this book during Arkansas Governor’s School in a free books pile and I was drawn to it. In the book I learned about how allies and how resources affects how countries pick and choose which other countries they are going to help. It really opened my eyes to global politics and the hard choices presidents have to make when it comes to genocide. I also started to think about maybe working for Unicef to aid places that still haven’t recovered from acts of genocide such as Rwanda and also analyzing the mindset of those who do commit genocide due to my psychology

The film Hotel Rwanda is based on true events. It portrays the plight and suffering of Rwandans – mainly the Tutsi peoples and "moderate" Hutus – during the Rwandan genocide accurately. However, the film is under controversy because of suspicion surrounding the portrayal Paul Rusesabagina and United Nations peacekeeper Romeo Dallaire's actions in the movie. Although some parts of the plot may be inaccurate as they allegedly over exaggerate certain aspects of the genocide, it is still an effective teaching tool. Hotel Rwanda’s plot revolves around how Rusesabagina housed thousands of Tutsi refugees from genocide at the hands of Hutu extremists in the hotel he managed during the Rwandan Genocide of 1994.…

Greetings Carine McCandless, I finally made it to Alaska and I believe my journey is going to end soon. Later, after arriving, I ran out of food and I went out to search for food such as fruit or berries. After eating a handful I fell asleep and I awaken with excruciating pain. I started to read the book and I had got the plants mixed with a poisonous plant that look exactly alike. I started making myself throw up and began reading more into the book I figured that the plant I ate can cause starvation and death.…

Doing the Mind Movie project I’ve learned that I am stronger than I thought I was. Growing up dealing with challenges I would of never thought that I would overcome negative situations. Not only have I made situations positive, I have also accomplished goals that I have set for myself. Even though I have lost my grandfather who played a major role in my life I still do the things I do today because I always think to myself “He would be proud of me.” Having a child of my own has also taught me to grow up much more faster.…

The book I read was The Perks of Being a Wallflower, written by Stephen Chbosky. In my personal opinion this novel has done an amazing job at getting it’s message across to it’s readers. When you get near the end of the book you begin to realize that throughout the novel the author writes important pieces of information to build up to it’s conclusion. I think it’s important that he did this because once you get to the end of the book you better understand all the situations that occurred. For example, Charlie has never been very comfortable with relationships or sexual attraction, so later on as readers you start to comprehend the reasons why.…

Reading Stephen King's essay on why we crave horror, makes me question his beliefs, as he wrote, “those of us outside the asylums only hide it a little better – and maybe not all that much better, after all.” I do not find a craving of horror movie essential for my life, (though I do enjoy a nice thrill every now and then) but this line makes me wonder if we are all secretly batshit crazy. I concur with his statement that almost everyone is partially insane at times. He says that horror movies appeal to the worst in us. Those horror movies give some people a sense of essential normality, a relief that that is not them on the screen.…

The number one thing I learned in today’s class on cross-cultural competencies was how important situational awareness can be when it comes to counterinsurgency tactics. I knew that it’s important to get a complete feel for your environment, so you can figure out the difference between what the people want and what they need. It’s imperative for a counterinsurgency team to become culturally proficient within their area of operation (AO). This comes with time and educating yourself with the society within your footprint. It’s not always important to know how the entire country works, but more about the people you interact with on a daily basis.…

My educational goal started in September 2014 when I first applied for admissions at Bellevue College. I had been laid off as an Administrative Design Assistant at a local staging company where I discovered the interior design world, and my passion for it. The reason I was given is that I lacked experience necessary to work alongside the principle designer, even though I was hired specifically because of my lack of design experience two years earlier. While attending my first quarter at BC, I completed my necessary weekly job search requirements for unemployment insurance, and completed the Training Benefits application required by Employment Security Department before the 90 day deadline. Being awarded Training Benefits allowed me to…

The first time I had encountered a bully was the start of sixth grade. Throughout elementary school, I had never experienced being laughed at and whispered about; I had always been friends with everyone. I had never been physically threatened before, but when that day came, I found myself scared and clueless as to how I would defend myself. The thought of being in a physical altercation gave me nightmares. I did not know how to fight and was in fear of being attacked, which would lead to more intense bullying.…
