Tim Curry’s 1990 adaptation was a very humane version of the cannibalistic clown. He was rather rowdy and loud for a vicious, murdering clown. The 2017 adaptation is much more of what you would expect. Bill Skarsgård plays Pennywise in a more traditional horror movie kind of way. He’s erratic, disturbing, and undeniably deranged. This version recreates some of the most iconic shots from the 90s film and also makes specific references to King’s novel. Some of which is the story taking place in Derry, ME, which is a popular setting for King’s books. Another is a sign for Jackson Street, which is the exact street from the book. Whichever version people prefer, everybody can agree that both adaptations are terrifyingly great
