The key is not to prioritize what is on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities,” philosophized Stephen Covey. Time management is all about delegation. One of the most difficult things I have ever undergone thus far in my twenty-one years of life is to efficiently find a healthy balance among my Penn Foster studies along with my job, family and other activities and responsibilities. I am a full-time waitress with a multifaceted job at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurant, in addition to being a part-time, second year veterinary technician student. I have received numerous additive job opportunities and considered tackling a second job, but where I would find time to eat, sleep and breathe would be beyond me. Spreading out my life without sacrificing quality from one aspect for another is more complicated than I figured it would be; I can honestly say that I highly underestimated adulthood. I have a plan. I have always had a plan. I know where I want my life to go and nothing, not even lack of time is going to stand in my way. An ample part of achieving any goal is a support system, whether it be friends, family or a discussion board of classmates with a similar goal. My family has always made up my influence group and have always stood by me and my choices and want nothing more than to watch me succeed. Steve Jobs once said “Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve encountered to help make the big choices in life.” This may seem a little extreme, however, keeping this in the back of one’s head will serve as a reminder that time management is more than just a phrase thrown around to describe a seemingly unattainable trait. I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

Being a nontraditional student it is essential you possess good time management skills. As a student, I have a full time job, a part time job, educational obligations, and volunteer coach in my local community. This may seem overbearing from the outside looking in, but by managing my time properly I can easily accomplish these things. I am a full time police officer, work part time as an armed security guard, coach baseball in a local youth league, and taking two classes at once while enrolled with Bethel University. This can appears to be a lot on one person, however by using effective time management skills it is very manageable.…

I now know ultimately helping my family in the long run means I need to do what makes me happy; and helping people that are less fortunate than I was is what motivates me to become better. When I started taking classes again to prepare for graduate school, I have already been graduated for a while and I knew the challenges that would come with competing with a younger, intellectual, driven crowd. It was definitely a challenge, but overall rewarding experience, because I met professors who not only stimulated my mind to think out of the box, but have taught me to believe in myself, and that hard work does pay off. Anytime my family runs into a situation I felt like I had to pick up all the pieces and fix it, but this past year my mom has been my backbone. She has encouraged and supported me to stop focusing on everything and everyone else and to pursue my goals and dreams.…
