Stephen Covey Challenges

Stephen Covey once said “Just as we develop our physical muscles through overcoming opposition, such as lifting weights, we develop our character muscles by overcoming challenges and adversity.” I have a physical challenge that causes my feet to hurt, but through Stephen Covey I’ve not only learned how to conquer my feet issues, I’ve also learned great accountability and major responsibility. His words have inspired me to not only help me through my feet issues, but also have made me into a better person.
Because of my physical issue, when I run or walk a lot my feet start to hurt a lot. My physical issue is called planterficious and it basically causes inflammation in my arches and in the middle of my feet. Every sport I’m in I either have to walk, jog, and sometimes sprint. I was terrified to join soccer because all you do is run and run. I didn’t realize how much it would impact my life until I joined soccer and ran for 4 hours the first day. I was so scared the first day because of my feet issues!

We ran for almost 4 hours without even touching a soccer ball. Right when we got there, we had to run a complex which is running around the whole soccer complex and it’s about 0.7 miles. Our coach encouraged us to run our fastest and get our best time, so that everyday we can challenge ourselves to get better everyday and get a better time. After the first day of soccer tryouts I was dead, I wanna to skip the rest of the week and just come back when tryouts were over. My feet were so inflamed and I could barely walk when I got home. I never thought I was out of shape until I experienced the first day of soccer tryouts, it was the most I’ve ever

Everyone has experienced some sort of atrocious pain in their lives. At one point in my life I did not believe I will ever walk again. A troubling life changing event occurred when I was just fourteen years old. Every evil thought was occurring in my head all at once. “You won’t walk anymore”, “You won’t heal”, “Time can’t change this”, all thoughts that were going through my mind while being in a wheelchair.…

If I can overcome this, I can overcome anything My father had always told me, “A small setback is just only a setup for a great comeback.” I had played football practically all of my life, from Little League Football to High School Football. It was my freshman year of Highschool, and football season had just begun. There was nothing to stop me from playing football for the rest of my life, so I had thought.…

I texted my dad to have him run home and get me some Ibuprofen, and I’m sure I must have taken enough that night that my kidneys will never forgive me. When Eric came to get me to warm up, I got up and did an awkward limp to the door. He asked if I should still be running, and I assured him that I would be fine. At this point, no amount of pain medication would work, and I stepped up to the start line fully expecting to finish in last place, have Quisno find out about my injury, and freak out at me. I ended up running almost 30 seconds slower than my best time, but I still managed to finish in 5th place to help out the team.…

During that time of tryouts, not only was I dealing with tryouts, I was preparing for a conference track meet that same week. Now I 'm not one to make excuses, but I will admit it was a tad big challenging dealing with tryouts, track, and school during that week. At first I wasn 't going to tryout, I figured that I might as well wait until I get more comfortable with the school. After undergoing much consideration and thought, with the help of my fellow classmates, I decided that, as my mother…

“Beep Beep Beep” It is 5 am and my hand can’t make it to the alarm clock before the voices in my head start telling me that it is too early and too dark to get up. But I did not ask for their opinion, I rise like a phoenix and before I know it, I am drenched in sweat and walking out an empty gym in route to the soccer field. Why you ask because I was told I was not good enough, too uncoordinated, and too tall to play soccer and I was on a mission to prove them wrong. There was a month left before the traveling soccer team that everyone told me I was not good enough to play for came back to town for their yearly tryouts.…

The next day, we had another soccer game in the morning and I wanted to play, but, a parent on our team is a nurse and she told my mom that I needed to sit out and go to the doctor Monday because she thought I had a concussion. Monday came, and I went to the doctor and they told me I had a terrible concussion and should go to the hospital to see if my skull was cracked. Needless to say, the doctors found nothing wrong but a terrible concussion, and they told me I had the choice to quit soccer or keep playing and become affected by the concussion in 10 years, so, I made the hardest decision I’ve ever made; I quit the game I fell in love with at just 5 years…

I was four years old when I started playing soccer, and at ten I knew I wanted to play in college. Soccer has been a huge part of my life for twelve years now, growing up I had always played defense and loved it. When eighth grade came around, my travel team needed a goalie, I decided to take one for the team and become our goalie for that season instead of playing my usual position. Playing goalie was never my first choice, but I knew that I had to do it if I wanted to play soccer that season, so I asked my brother to train me to become a goalie for that season. As it turned out, I wasn’t terrible at goalie and my dad suggested I switch from defense to goalie.…
