Step On A Crack Play Analysis

A play that has existed since the 1970s, Step on a Crack by Suzan Zeder is about a young child,Ellie, her widower father that has just remarried, and her new stepmother. Being somewhat biased due to the fact my cousin was the stage manager, I feel the presentation of the play as a whole was very well done. The set itself was relatively simple with them upstairs consisting of the living room and the downstairs containing Ellie's bedroom. The only change of sets was a quick scene where Ellie was wondering the dark and scary streets at night after a confrontation with her new mother. The play being written in the 70s, all the characters ,imaginary or not, were dressed accordingly with wonderful argyle and plaid everywhere. The premise of the …show more content…
Immediately she resists and does everything in her power to make the situation as uncomfortable for her new stepmother as she can. Constantly disobeying her rules and refusing to do anything she says, Ellie becomes a stubborn and spoiled brat. Only adding to this problem or her three imaginary friends; Lana them Frisbee, along with the unnamed manifestation of her own disdain for her step mother. This personification of anger acts as the true antagonist in the play, constantly pushing Ellie to disobey rules and trash her room in retaliation. While her stepmother constantly attempts to befriend Ellie and bends to her will, this does nothing to appease Ellie and only causes her to push harder. Ellie's father does nothing to aid in the situation as he constantly lets her off of doing her chores and cleaning her room, only allowing her to become more and more independent of her new stepmother. In an attempt to appease Ellie's new stepmother, her father offered to take them on a honeymoon, a three week trip to Hawaii. Instead of telling Ellie about this, her father constantly sidesteps the issue until it comes to a head and Ellie's new stepmother nearly forces them to speak about it. Instead, Ellie's father once again changes the subject

Peter and the Starcatcher is an exhilarating and adventurous story that tells the tale of the well known free-spirited boy, Peter Pan’s backstory. Peter and the Starcatcher is based on the 2004 novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which was fashioned into a play by Rick Elice. I had an exceptional experience of seeing the play on March 29, at 9:30, adapted by director, Kerry Bishop on the A.B Lucas Secondary School stage. This play certainly catches the whimsical and wonderful essence of the boy who never grew up and how he came to be. Starring Aidan Peters as Peter, Makayla Ashenden as Molly Astor, Michael Jenkinson as Black Stache and the entire A.B Lucas cast put together a humorous and heartwarming performance, leaving me on…

Napoleon Hill once said, “Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. ”African Americans have endured and struggle through much throughout history, fueled by hate and thought of superiority. However, many African Americans in the south also struggled coexisting amongst each other. Instead of all black people fighting for their rights together some just wanted to coexist with those of the white race. Jonathan Norton’s play, Mississippi GODdamn, completely captures the struggle of African Americans to coexist with one as well as the racial conflict of the 1960s.…

Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Stanley is a story about family and love. Complete with arguing family members, death of a loved one, and acceptance. In the very last scene where Rosemary has trapped Tony in her home and yells at him when he calls her beautiful, is a great example of what this play is really about. Outside Mullingar has great examples of relationships throughout the entirety of the play. The characters themselves go through a great deal of extreme emotions, which can sometimes make people uncomfortable, but the director and creative team did a wonderful job of tying everything together to make the show run seamlessly and comfortably.…

When the lights went off, all you saw was a green light glowing on the stage and I thought that was a very cool and creative factor to use because it gave a sense of alarm or danger to the play. Before the play began, you were able to hear old music from the 20’s which I believe really set a good mood for this play. I believe music set a mood to the audience and gave them the feeling that everything was going to be okay and that this story was going to end on a happy note. It also gives a tone to the audience without saying anything that the play is set in a past era. The props, such as the walking cane and rocking chair, gave a very good identification of how the characters were physically feeling as the play progressed.…

The Royal Family, written by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber, is a play about three generations of a wealthy family during the 1920s. I watched the play on December 6, 2015 at the Pierce College Arts Building. The play was directed Anita Adcock, who did great job setting the play as she intended it to be. Everything from the costumes, the lighting, to the typecasting was excellently produced. Particularly, the set design was able to greatly express the theme of the play.…

I found the use of dramatic lighting to play the largest role in the ghost scenes where inflicting fear was intended. In singular, flashing fluorescent colors of white and green gave great detail. The sound designer used simulated reality to portray realistic sounds in the play as man-made, and not technological. This made the play feel legitimate, and less like a performance, as if I was observing it in the real world. The set, however, was the most enticing of all the visual effects.…
