Stem Year Speech

I am here today to tell you the wonders of my 6th grade STEM year. Before I start, I need to tell you, this year was pretty crazy. There were some parts of this year that will always stay with me and others that are not very memorable. Let’s start at the beginning. It was the middle of august when everyone was new. I could tell, everyone was nervous. Not I. I was ready! Ready to start a new year. I wanted a fresh start, and there it was. Right in front of me. So, I took it.
On the first day, we met our new teachers and peers. I was so excited! But, after that day, I became less and less excited until I started to know all of the people by my locker and in my classes. Turns out, they’re all amazing and unique in their own ways.

After a few months, I started to come out of my shell and meet new people. I tried new things and tried new things. By the time it was December, I was transformed into a new person. It was the middle of december when we had our first band concert. Nervous, we stepped into the gym and looked at all of the parents. They were taking pictures and cheering us on. Mr. Sudano shushed them and we all took our stances. We all played our hearts out and at the end, we all took a bow. That is where my confidence had started.

It was so much fun! Even though some of my friends didn’t go to the same sight as me, it was still fun. But cold. I met new friends, learned new things, and got to experience new things. For example, while I was there, I got to meet one of my new, good friends, Natalie Graham. Also, I got to learn about the history of the camp. Like who lived there and how their lifestyle was. We even got to see where they were buried. It was pretty cool. I got to do things I never thought I would do. Plus, I got to build new relationships with everyone there. I got to be closer to the ones I thought were far away. This was a highlight I will never

Leaving my comfort zone seemed difficult at first but the friendliness of the environment made it easier. We all shared the love of dance and had similar tastes in music; there was always something to talk about. They helped me with many obstacles in my life. I can call this group of people my second family, considering all the times we’ve spent together. Aside from making amazing friends, I learned to ignore other’s perceptions of me and simply do my own thing whether it be dance or in daily life.…

I met all of them, socialized for a few minutes, and haven’t seen them since. The next several months were mundane and the same. There were no big events - It was wake up, go to school, go home, and sleep - the same life that I had back home. The only difference was that I had at least one other person my age that I could at least relate to.…

I thought of myself as a very awkward person that kept everything to herself. But this class made me feel welcomed! Not one of us knew each other so we all started from scratch. The good thing about this class was that we had the same specific class and teacher for both semesters of our first year of college, which was awesome! I ended English 104 with a B. My second class was a Health Education class and it was bit difficult because it was involved with Business.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…

Douglas Lurton once said “When you determine what you want, you have made the most important decision of your life. You have to know what you want in order to attain it.” Well Doug, you couldn’t be more right. When we’re young we’re asked what we want to be when we grow up. Some say a teacher, others say a doctor, and in my case I said a princess.…

Graduation was a time to celebrate my achievements, to celebrate growing up and maturing into adulthood, to celebrate my friends and family that guided me along the way, and most importantly to celebrate one chapter coming to an end, and another one just beginning. The night before graduation I could hardly sleep as I knew that my high school career would soon be over. I got up that next morning, took a shower, put my makeup on, straightened my hair, and put my favorite black dress on, only this time I had my chords, cap, and gown to go with it.…
