Stem cells has tremendous possibilities, it could be the solution to MS (multiple sclerosis), diabetes, or even cancer. Ronald Reagan, former President of the United States, and actor, says, “Stem Cell research can revolutionize medicine, more than anything since antibiotics” (Reagan). There have now been some cases of stem cells therapy working on MS patients. There are two basic categories of stem cells, adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells (Furchurt et al. 38). Stem cell therapy has the possibilities of extending the human life tremendously (Saey). Defective and dying tissues caused by diseases could be replaced ultimately (Scott 3). At the age of sixteen Laura Dominguez was in a terrible accident and was paralyzed. After extensive research and consultations with spinal cord injury experts, they decided to explore a procedure with stem cells. It involved taking tissue in her nose and putting it in her spinal cord. In the entire world she was the tenth person to have this surgery and only the second in the United States of America. The results of this surgery has been stupendous as Laura is now able to move her arms and gain muscle back into them and she can also stand up with a walker.The U.S. government did not fund embryo research after the Roe v Wade case where abortion was legalized.
