Fat cells are quick to turn into stem cells that help the bone when put in that area. One can also use stem cells derived from bone marrow, but that typically turns into blood and immune cells very fast. The way that scientist get their stem cells from the fat is in a procedure called liposuction. Liposuction is how they get the fat; that usually involves a cannula ( the tube where the fat gets sucked into ), and a solution that helps break up the fat. In this case, they make a special solution that separates the stem cells from the actual fat. Once they have the stem cells, they can inject them into the areas in need of repair.
Even though there seem to be so many benefits to stem cell injections, it definitely requires more careful study and research. Stem cells’ tendencies to regenerate and multiply at a very fast rate are, in fact, beneficial to tissue and wound treatment. However, because they divide so quickly, a potentially high risk is that tumors could easily form. According to www.nlm.nih.gov, other risks include, “...unwanted immune responses and the transmission of adventitious agents.” Of course, these risks have
