This is a general essay for one who may or may not be going into to stem cells on the different kind of stem cells we are determining price of each of the different stem cells the ethics and its plasticity. What are stem cells? Stem Cells are an undifferentiated cell of a multicellular organism that is capable of giving rise to indefinitely more cells of the same type, and from which certain other kinds of cell arise by differentiation. There are different types of Stem Cells such as Embryonic, Somatic (adult) IPS induced pluripotent stem cells, bone marrow stem cells, and cancer cells. When does conception begin? If so is it after the first heart beat? The insemination of the female embryo to create a fertilized egg or is it the first heartbeat. When is it used? Do we deliberately used fertilized eggs from actual humans or do we get them from an in vitro-fertilization lab? Does it still fall under the category of research regarding human embryos when we donate it to science? These have risen that has compromised United States and the progression of Stem cell Research primarily in the field of Embryonic Stem Cell research. Embryonic Stem Cell research is by far the most controversial in the United States and many parts of the world due to its many benefits such as curing the incurable and it actually hits home for me because I lost a friend who had a series of illnesses ankylosing spondylitis, and vasculitis that could have been prevented if we could legalize embryonic stem cell research but because of the ethics that are involved and the many religious organization that are against it she lost her life. The arguments that tend to arise is under the category of Human Potential. Embryos are not equivalent to human life while they are still incapable of surviving outside the womb they only …show more content…
Out of the thirty people I surveyed twenty two out of thirty said no. The reason that came up were astonishing a lot of it coming from ethical standpoint of the entire argument that is listed above. They stated that we are killing a human, another stated that children bore no sin so why should we legalize it but when asked if they would pass an alternative such as Somatic Stem Cells or IPS a majority of them did not know what it was but when explained all thirty of the people that were surveyed agreed on the idea that it was great and should be legalize. It made me think that the concept of stem cells isn’t bad but the legalization of embryonic stem cell research affected a lot of people and overall has given stem cell research a negative stigma people are associating Stem research as a whole with the subset of Embryonic Stem Cell
