Claim: Against Stem Cell Research Stem cell research is wrong because of these four reasons, they destroy embryo’s, they require a lifetime of drug use, they can cause tumors and they have harmful side effects when given to sufferers of Parkinson’s disease.
My first reason is that they destroy embryo’s. According to Yahoo news 2010, ‘’The extraction of stem cells from this type requires its destruction.’’ Embryonic cell research is killing small embryo’s that could eventually become a human beings. The cells might not be able to cure illnesses that they are supposed to treat and they are destroying embryos in attempt to find solutions from the embryonic cells. It’s like destroying a bird egg just to see if you can do …show more content…
According to Johnson 2014, ‘’embryonic stem cells can cause tumors due to rapid growth when injected in adults.’’ A tumor would mean that the embryonic stem cell is growing too fast when first injected. This could cause more problems for the patient by giving them cancer or other problems that could be potentially life threatening. Adults could always have a chance at getting a tumor when getting a stem cell transplant.
My fourth and final reason is that there are side effects when given fetal brain cells. According to Johnson 2014 ‘’sufferers of Parkinson’s disease when given the fetal brain cells can have side effects like head jerking, writhing, constant chewing, twisting and arm flailing.’’ These effects can be harmful to themselves and others. There are way too many side effects for fetal brain cells to be given to people with Parkinson’s disease. They are going to have to find a cure other than these fetal brain cells because these side effects could seriously injure a person.
In conclusion stem cell research is wrong because destroy embryo’s, require a lifetime of drug use, they can cause tumors and have harsh side effects when given to sufferers of Parkinson’s disease. These four reasons add up to my claim that stem cell research is
