While Fallout 4 by no means is a graphical powerhouse; its overall art direction is absolutely stunning. In my opinion, there are few--if any--other companies doing destroyed quite as beautifully as Bethesda. As a result of the stellar art direction, each location you explore in The Commonwealth seems unique and visually tells its own self-contained story. For example; in your travels you will stumble upon the skeletal remains of a gentleman's club whose members committed mass suicide by poison in lieu of suffering through the great war; survivors dedicating their lives to achieve a semblance of normalcy; and the horrific fates of The Commonwealth's many ghouls.
The characters models are designed well, however, at times they animate poorly - in particular in close-ups during conversations where they appear to stare blankly off into space as their mouths open and close irregardless of the actual spoken dialogue. There are also some issues with the pathfinding - which may quickly turn into frustration when your A.I companion refuses to get out of the way. Bethesda should, however, be commended for how well they visually communicate the allegiance of NPCs and their relative formidability. Take for instance the fan favorite super mutants; the regular grunts on the ground are barely clothed green monsters wielding boards or rudimentary weaponry, whereas the more dangerous skirmishers and leaders are heavily …show more content…
