Terrific Art Direction

While Fallout 4 by no means is a graphical powerhouse; its overall art direction is absolutely stunning. In my opinion, there are few--if any--other companies doing destroyed quite as beautifully as Bethesda. As a result of the stellar art direction, each location you explore in The Commonwealth seems unique and visually tells its own self-contained story. For example; in your travels you will stumble upon the skeletal remains of a gentleman's club whose members committed mass suicide by poison in lieu of suffering through the great war; survivors dedicating their lives to achieve a semblance of normalcy; and the horrific fates of The Commonwealth's many ghouls.

The characters models are designed well, however, at times they animate poorly - in particular in close-ups during conversations where they appear to stare blankly off into space as their mouths open and close irregardless of the actual spoken dialogue. There are also some issues with the pathfinding - which may quickly turn into frustration when your A.I companion refuses to get out of the way. Bethesda should, however, be commended for how well they visually communicate the allegiance of NPCs and their relative formidability. Take for instance the fan favorite super mutants; the regular grunts on the ground are barely clothed green monsters wielding boards or rudimentary weaponry, whereas the more dangerous skirmishers and leaders are heavily

There are some truly memorable locations in Fallout 4; like the aforementioned and ingeniously designed Diamond City and Parsons Insane Asylum among

However, Fallout 4 falls short of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim because the world of Skyrim has so much more in it. Fallout 4 allows players to make choices in the main story of the game, but the side plots are not even comparable to the wonderful side quests in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is four years older than Fallout 4, but The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is still enjoyed today by millions of players. In the late 1800s three Impressionist masters were capturing images of life in France while simultaneously depicting on going changes in Parisian society and culture. The paintings that give us a glimpse into the changing times in France include Vincent van Gogh’s Terrace and Observation Deck at the Moulin de Blute-Fin, Montmartre (1887), Gustave Caillebotte’s Paris Street; Rainy Day (1877) and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s At the Moulin Rouge (1892/95). I encountered these paintings in the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection at The Art Institute of Chicago. While observing these paintings, I discovered objects and motifs that suggest modern advancements in technology, fashion and architecture, while uncovering a connecting between Frances past and present.…

This painted paints women relaxing on what seems to be a beautiful day. The artist is able to paint with such talent: from the sun kissed skin of the women to the greenery background, it still is able to impress and wow people. The style of the artist, Gauguin, brings out the calm and stability through the colors and shapes within the painting. In the painting of the four women enjoying leisure time, many bright, but are warm colors are also used: many shades of green and yellow in the background and as well as the clothes of the women.…

For this assignment I visited the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and chose a painting from the 2016 Cumberland Valley Artists Exhibition. The oil on linen painting was titled Professor Quimby and was made in 2014 by Cyd Goodwin. Goodwin appears to be influenced by theatrical plays as most of her paintings revolve around the same subjects/people. In Professor Quimby, one can see a young woman in a greenish dress, standing, looking over her shoulder at the viewer. Diagonally from the woman is a man sitting on a stool, wearing a dark suit with a red bowtie, and a pipe in his hand.…

The Fallout games were the brain child of Interplay Entertainment™ and widely speculated to be a sequel to their game Wasteland, though this has never been confirmed. While Fallout™ and Fallout 2™ were a hit with players, critics of the games were unimpressed with the style and lamented about “bugs”. Unfortunately, neither game sold well and Interplay decided to sell the rights of Fallout 3 to Bethesda Softworks™ in 2004 to save themselves from bankruptcy. Fallout 3™ was released in 2008 and was praised by the press for its first-person perspective, intuitive design, and unique combat system. Fans of the first two games were skeptical at first, since Fallout…

I was fascinated to learn about the elements in Art. I had always thought that art had no organization, guidance or system. I thought that people just painted or drew pretty much whatever they wanted with no apparent rules. The Visual Elements that Getlein mentions on chapter 4 consist of the following; line shape and mass, light, color, texture and pattern and last but not least; time and motion (Getlein, 2012). These elements are intrinsically woven in art!…
