Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, who today performs under the stage name “Lady Gaga”, was born on March 28, 1986 in Manhattan, New York City as the eldest child to Cynthia Louise and Joseph Germanotta. She was born of Italian heritage on her father’s side with some French ancestry from her mother. Musically gifted as a child, Stefani was able to teach herself how to play the piano by the age of four and was then trained in order to complete her knowledge of the piano, which led her to create her first song called “Dollar Bills”. Then at the age of eleven, she was accepted into the Julliard School in Manhattan, but instead decided to attend the Covent of the Sacred Heart, a private Roman Catholic school. Later on, Gaga worked together with producer/songwriter Red One, in order to create her most famous songs: "Just Dance," "Love Game," and "Poker Face." Out of these songs, “Just Dance” was the first of Lady Gaga’s songs to be nominated for a Grammy Award in the early part of 2008. These songs, then acted as the main support for Lady Gaga’s debut album “The Frame”, which appeared in August 2008.
With her popularity rapidly rising, Gaga eventually became No. 1 on the mainstream pop charts in January 2009. While advancing her career as a singer, Lady Gaga also became famous for her devotion to promoting extreme costumes and outrageous fashion, which were similar to other styles such as those worn by Cher, Joan Crawford, and Liberace. Lady Gaga continued to become even more successful after the release of her second full album “Born This Way” in 2011.
