Steeler Nation Definition

In a world where there are 4200 globally recognized religions, creating a universal definition of religion must be a difficult task. I associate religion with a feeling of comfort and fellowship. I define religion as a set of beliefs corresponding to a religious routine. Although people might take different approaches to the same set of beliefs, I wouldn’t consider someone an active follower without a somewhat frequent acknowledgment of their religion. Naturally, my definition isn’t perfect. Not every religion has a routine, core beliefs, comfort, and fellowship. However, my definition supports Steeler Nation as a religion. Steeler fans have a specific set of practices, principles, and an unexplainable bond between the members of Steeler Nation. This feeling of practice, love, and community all define religion and are my favorite part of practicing Christianity. In my mind, religion has to do with God, fellowship, and …show more content…
For example, in Hinduism the concept of Dharma discusses maintenance of our lives. This means even if our lives are not how we want them to be, we only strive to maintain: not to improve. This means that Hinduism may not make their followers feel secure the same way other religions do. Nonetheless, Hinduism is definitely a religion. Someone who goes to church every Sunday and has a youth group might still feel uncomfortable about the religion, or even not identify as a Christian. Because Christianity gives them a feeling of discomfort, does that make it an invalid religion? I think religion is difficult to define because religion is an uncomfortable topic to discuss. There is a similar discomfort to the word “religion” as there is to the word “politics”. Both are considered improper to discuss at the dinner table. Without a comfortable understanding of all religions, finding a true definition is very

It is necessary for a team or league to make a code of ethics for its fans but I don’t think they are very effective. While it is good for teams to promote a positive fan experience for everyone that attends games, the unfortunate truth is that most fans don't read the code of ethics nor do some try to follow them. For some fans, yelling foul language or making abusive gestures is just apart of their experience. If you’ve ever seen or been to New York Jets games, you know what I’m talking about. I don’t think it’s in sports fans nature to read a code of ethics before going to a game.…

Last Wednesday, I was lucky enough to attend a Rangers vs. Penguins hockey game at the renowned Madison Square Garden. Jerseys, hats, and merchandise filled the arena in a sea of blue, as fans poured into the arena. As my beloved Rangers started to fall behind to the Penguins, (in an eventual 6-1 drubbing) I started to exercise my sociological imagination, wondering how these disparate 18,000+ individuals came together to witness a mundane hockey game, and in essence create a social structure like no other. The first sociological term that sprung to mind when pondering this mystery of sports fans is the idea of a subculture present between fans of similar teams. A subculture is defined as a distinguishable group that shares a number of features with the dominant culture within which it exists while also having unique features such as language, customs, or values.…

In my life so far I’ve been exposed to various religions. My encounters have granted me the privilege to learn and understand each religion independently. What puzzled me the most was coming across a religion that wasn’t identified as a “religion” by a believer. In this chapter of Religion Pluralism, I wish to challenge those who are Christians to first take a step back and reanalyze the definition of religion. In order to obtain a more concise and understanding of religions and their values, I believe that redefining religion in itself would be necessary.…

What constitutes a religion? A question we have been trying to answer for an entire semester. Most, if not all, of us consider Christianity to be a religion, but do we see Atheism as being a religion in itself? Believe it or not, Atheism and Christianity hold a number of similarities, and the single factor I have chosen to compare between the two is whether or not they hold similar attributes that, according to my views, help make up a religion. Both Christianity and Atheism share the aspects of community, beliefs about God, and fundamentalism.…

There are many types of religions in the world, all in which different cultures believe in. It is one thing to be raised and taught to believe in a “God” but it is an other thing when that “God” is proven real. Many people believe in a “higher power” but do not want to classify that “higher power” so that it does not change their lifestyle or their behaviour. Humans like to be comfortable in their own skin, with their own beliefs, therefore, they will try and convince themselves in what they believe is real for their own comfort. In that case, couldn 't that be very scary if they are wrong?…
