The Industrial Revolution was a time in the 18th century when many important inventions were made. Many of these inventions made work easier and more efficient and cost effective. As these inventions created new manufacturing and industry, these inventions disadvantaged many people by causing them to have to move away from farms and into cities. This was a time of great change in the Industrial Revolution.
The steam engine was a machine powered by coal as fuel. The steam engine was used to power the cogs connected to them to power a machine. The development of the steam engine during the Industrial Revolution increased the mass production of coal out of the mines.
The world was becoming an industrialized place before the advent of steam power, but would never have progressed so quickly without it. Factories would still rely on water and wind energy because the steam engine could malfunction. James Watt explained that factories maybe build anywhere in the world. James Watt developed the idea of horse power as a measurement horses spinning a machine to power cogs. Steam power is used today to allow …show more content…
A savvy businessman, Watt marketed his machine by calculating the number of horses his engine would replace, coining the term "horsepower" in the process. The invention of a practical steam engine had an immediate effect on employment, first in Great Britain and later around the world. England had huge natural resources of coal that could fuel steam engines, and this drove the creation of mills and factories that turned out the goods that people had been creating by hand. Ships and trains powered by steam moved manufactured goods and people from place to place quickly and more efficiently because now boats have motors
