Evaluation of Eugenia caryophyllata (clove oil) on vascular development of chick embryo
Abstract:
Eugenia caryophyllata is used in cooking, food processing, pharmacy; perfumery and cosmetics. In traditional medicine, the clove oil (eugenol) has been used in the dental care and in relieves respiratory disorder symptoms. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of single dose clove oil on mortality rate, angiogenesis and vasculogenesis of chick embryos during early stages of development. The actions of clove oil as a teratogenic agent are not completely known. The developing Chick embryo has been widely used as a model organism for research studies in developmental and in teratogenic biology. Chick eggs treated with a single dose of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 µl clove oil applied to the egg air chamber

The data we represent here shows that clove oil affects the survival rate of early stage chick embryos; we have shown that the lethal dose for chick embryo is highest in day 12.The results we represent indicate that different doses of clove oil does not affect vessels formation and heart developmentat early stages of chick developmen, which is in agreement with published study of (Cortés-Rojas et al. 2014) that reported the absence of clove toxicity. We have found that clove oil not affect the heart development and its beat. According to (Singh et al. 2009) these effects are due to the presence of volatile oils, especially eugenol. Further, it is known that anti-oxidants can be beneficial for the prevention of stress induced pathological changes. These result is in agreement to (Nangle et al. 2006) reported the clove antioxidant to prevent the vascular dysfunction in streptozotocin induced diabetic
