Fungal Infections
Fungal STD’s are the most commonly occurring type of STD’s but they can be treated easily if treatment starts at an early age. They are transmitted through oral, vaginal or anal sex. Symptoms of fungal STD’s include fever, dizziness, diarrhea, vomiting, chills and muscle aches. Yeast infections also cause redness and itching of the genital area. The itching can be intense and can also be in the vagina. There may also be a burning during intercourse and urination. Since some STD’s show no symptoms, many infections go undiagnosed creating serious concerns for long term health. Routine screening is critical and must be encouraged by primary health providers, with a clinical, open discussion and non-judgmental attitudes towards patients.
Educating young adults about the possible long term health concerns caused by STD’s needs to be encouraged and continued. When it comes to STD’s, ignorance is not an option. What you do not know can hurt you and even prove to be fatal.
Another alarming trend, possibly contributing to the increasing number of cases is the lack of condom use. A number of reasons may be causing this phenomenon. Some reported a lack of availability, while others indicated a lack of confidence in the reliability of condoms. Some even refused to use them. With the improved cocktail of antibiotics and the drug Truvada, being used to reduce the risk of acquiring HSV-1. Some believe that the threat of being infected is low.
