If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…

The American flag is one of the last symbols of hope. It stands for life, support and freedom. One example of how the flag is a symbol of life is when people die the veterans, the soldiers or anyone who worked for this country bring all the flags to half-mast to honor the people that die during the incident that occurred. When a flag is old and tattered persons cut the stars out and send them to friends and family so the flag is remembered but isn't “suffering”. The U.S. flag also stands for support.…

Words are extremely powerful; perhaps if people understood what a single phrase can make an individual do, feel, or think, we would think not only twice but rather three or four times before we went on in speaking our minds. The United States of America symbolizes freedom; the statue of liberty located in the city of New York, is a good representation of what we as Americans are guaranteed. Freedom of speech, the right to follow any religion, and the right to love and marry whoever we want are among the very few. Though these are rights granted to us by our constitution, there is a dark shadow that many minorities experience at first hand; darkness that is portrayed through the thoughts, words, and sometimes actions of those that are fortunate…

"Give me your tired, your poor, [y]our huddled masses yearning to breathe free, [t]he wretched refuse of your teeming shore” (Lazarus). This epitaph, which comes from the poem “The New Colossus," is inscribed on one of America’s most valuable symbols: The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is the perfect embodiment of the values that America prides itself on most, namely the belief in freedom for all. Since this nation’s humble beginnings, American citizens have done everything in their power to live according to the virtues that they value so deeply; however, America’s response to recent events, specifically its hesitance to take in refugees from humanitarian crises, has reflected a disregard for these virtues that were once so beloved.…

The statue of Liberty was often the first thing that immigrants coming to America would see as they showed up hoping for opportunity and seeking a better life in America. 1985 was the year that my father arrived to this country while my mother came in 1984. Both of my parents came separately on different journeys from the Dominican Republic as immigrants, not knowing a single thing about America. Although my parents did not arrive to the United States on a boat heading to Liberty Island, the depth and meaning the statue of Liberty has towards immigrants is what makes it so personal for my family and I. As stated in an article I’ve read, the Statue of Liberty stirs the desire for freedom in people all over the world.…

The American Dream is based on hard work and integrity, but I challenge the idea that the American Dream is still possible today because of the unlawful decisions that are becoming more and more popular because of the oppression that the leaders posses. At one point everyone started off nowhere but now, with hard anyone can achieve success in America or so they think. As time goes on the American Dream is getting lost and will soon be nowhere to be found.
