Alexis de Tocqueville once said, “The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults”. To be an American is to let immigrants in with open arms and to help the country and other Americans in times of need. The Statue of Liberty can be seen as a huge part of what America was and is still today. It is a symbol of freedom for immigrants who are searching for a new place to call home. In the presidential address on October 28, 1936, President Franklin Roosevelt stated, “They not only found freedom in the New World, but by their effort and devotion, they made the New World’s freedom safer, richer, more far-reaching, more capable of growth”.
