The Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions Doctor of Nursing Practice Admission Essay 1- My career goals would include continuing to work as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse, pursuing a doctorate in nursing, and applying my education to become a nurse leader while maintaining a clinical practice. Since I have already worked in advanced practice, obtaining a doctorate would simply further my knowledge and skill base and promote my career by giving me numerous options from which to choose in the work world. 2- I would like to attend the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Institute of Health Profession (IHP) primarily because of its reputation and excellent …show more content…
I also have an abundance of excellent ideas to help boost the nursing profession, and I have years of experience working as a nurse and now as an advanced practice nurse. I utilize training-based skills and knowledge to help change individual behaviors in practice. A combined knowledge from coursework and clinical experience is extremely beneficial when I work with patients who are struggling with substance abuse, for example. I can assist that segment of the population so that they can change their negative, addictive behaviors into healthier choices and optimal lifestyles. I do this through counseling and with medication management. A DNP from the MGH IHP would help me continue to develop excellent leadership and clinical skills from a doctorate that is grounded in practice. Furthering and completing my education with a terminal, practice-based degree that is respected by others in the field would enhance my strengths and help me contribute to the program and the community. I instill hope in patients and their families when they feel dejected, and I try to give patients options when they are desperate and needy. For example, when I care for my depressed patients, I always strive to uplift their spirits in any way I can. I have cared for a multitude of depressed patients who have felt that nothing would help them. But with my support and redirection and with excellent medication management and specific treatment actions, they were able to move on from their pathological states to improved and meaningful lives. Therefore, a strength I have in nursing would be the ability to encourage confidence in others from opportunities through caring and hard work and from an assured outlook and attitude and from an excellent behavioral example in daily
